What if this is all just a dream?
What if we are all still asleep?
Waiting in line until our hearts stop to beat
We open our eyes when us & eternity meet
As the hourglass runs out of sand
Minutes turn to hours
Days to months
Then years are gone.
The alarm clock sounding destiny’s song
Fleeting moments,
Things that aren’t meant to last
Our known reality has come and past
Whenever we awake, no longer asleep
Reflections of what was, of the dream we create
Sleeping with the breath of life
Awakening to the face of death
A short night becomes an endless morning
What if it was all just a dream
Accept the fact of our insignificance
None of us matter,
Yet we are all equally important
The odds of us being here are dismal
Our remote existence is incomprehensible
Functionally zero
Fragments of the dream, pass by in a flash
Pedal to the floor asleep at the wheel
This dream will be another’s memory
Waking up to realize you missed it
Feeling it all start to slip
Trying to peak through the veil
There’s only one guarantee in life
To wake up…eventually we all will
Like counting back from 10
Gone so fast
It seems to have ended before it ever began
Yet it felt like forever
The snap of a finger
In the blink of an eye
What if this all just a dream
And we wake up when we die
Are you ok?
Are you fine?
Don’t forget
You’re still standing in line
Often none of this feels real
Like it’s all just a dream
Trying to remember what I came here for
And what I did before
The last time I was asleep
Maybe it’s all nothing
And there is no before or after
Maybe it’s all a dream
And nothing actually matters
So why do we do it all
When it seems there is no point
Asleep for our whole life
Just to be exhausted at the end
Your slip has a number on it
Just like mine
As we stand here waiting
To move forward in the line
Waiting to wake up
As this life ends
Opening the curtains
To find out if it was a dream the whole time
