Not Quite Infinity

Said I love you to the moon and back

But that’s not quite infinity

Forever doesn’t last

And tomorrow feels like it won’t happen

You’re already almost gone

It was over before it ever started

Open your eyes and look at my sleeve

you can see where my heart is

Open your eyes and turn around

you might get a glimpse of us

Dissolving moments

That may as well have never happened

Lies that were half way true

A thin blanket of comfort

Altered truths,

with a dash of sympathy

Distracted my mind

Clouded my judgement

It’s clear to see what the future holds

This isn't going anywhere

Why do we keep on trying

Continuing to put salt on the wound

Using lies like a bandaid

Sutures on the mind

The true test is who is brave enough to walk away first

So let’s both let go on 3

You don’t need me

and I can say the same for myself

Why keep competing

Playing a chess match with ourselves

No one is going to win

Because we’ve both already lost

Where’s the silver lining

There’s supposed to be light at the end of the tunnel

But all I can see is black

Shrouded by obscurity

Delusions of grandeur

Guilt reprise

True identity’s hidden in disguise

Comes as no surprise

We are both wrong

Can’t see the light of day

And everything seems so distant

Can’t accept blame

So then who’s at fault

Can’t spilt the difference

So what does it matter

We are divided

Find the puzzle where you fit

A place you feel at home

With some who wants you

& won’t leave you left alone

Tell me what’s the cost

When this all actually ends

Was all of our time,

currency well spent

Or was it just nickels and dimes

A penny on the side walk

Should’ve cashed out when we were a head

But gambling is a vice

I didn’t think you would fold, & you thought I was all in

I called your bluff , then you saw my hand

Told you we both lose

Told you no one wins

We just did it for the rush

One & One = Muse

Walking away would’ve been the only safe bet

Yet we both refused

Instead we shuffle the deck to play another hand

Didn’t think we would have to push each other down

To see where we both stand

Tomorrow may never happen

Tomorrows not guaranteed

Said I love you to the moon and back

But that’s not quite infinity
